Identity Shifts therapy for changes in who you are becoming

Identity shifts can bring relief, confusion, grief, and a lot of questions at once. I work with adults who want a place to sort through those changes without having to explain them from scratch.

What people bring me

Identity shifts can show up when something inside you no longer fits the way you used to move through the world. Some people feel unsettled by changes in gender, sexuality, roles, or the way they want to relate to others. Others are trying to name something they've always known but never had language for. That process can bring relief and also grief, especially when family, culture, or relationships don't know what to do with it. In our work, I pay attention to what feels true, what feels fragile, and what support looks like for you right now.

  • I don't fit the way people think I should.
  • I'm questioning things I used to take for granted.
  • I'm relieved and scared at the same time.
  • I don't know how to talk about this with the people around me.

You can say the part that feels uncertain before it feels clear.

How I work with it

I work with identity shifts through ACT, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive care so the conversation stays connected to your lived reality. That means we can talk about the meanings you've inherited, the ones you're questioning, and how identity intersects with safety, belonging, and relationships. For couples, identity changes may affect how you communicate, how you name needs, or how you understand each other now. I keep the work centered on what feels honest for you, not on forcing a label or a direction.

ACT
ACT can help us sit with uncertainty without rushing to force an answer. We focus on what matters to you as your sense of self keeps changing.
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-informed care is useful when identity changes bring up fear, shame, or old messages about what is allowed. I pay attention to what feels vulnerable so the work stays steady.
Culturally Responsive Care
Culturally responsive care helps me hold the family, cultural, and community messages that shape identity. That context matters when someone is trying to understand who they are outside old expectations.

What the first sessions look like

The first sessions are about hearing what has shifted and what you're trying to understand. We'll talk about the parts that feel confusing, the parts that feel clear, and what kind of support would actually help in the room.

Questions people ask

Is therapy for identity support only about gender or sexuality?

No. It can also be about changing roles, values, belonging, or the way you understand yourself over time.

What if I'm not ready to label what I'm feeling?

That's fine. We can work with uncertainty and let the language come later, if it comes at all.

Do you work with LGBTQ+ identity shifts?

Yes. I work with LGBTQ+ adults who want space for questions, changes, and the stress that can come with both.

Can identity shifts affect relationships?

They often do. We can talk about what changes in how you show up with partners, family, or friends.
